FAQs for Holiday Donors
Who does the AAF Holiday Program serve?
Adopt A Family serves low-income families that live in Marin County and have at least one child under the age of 18 living in the home. Families that have received assistance from us during the current calendar year are given priority for the Holiday Program.
How much does it cost to adopt a family?
The cost varies greatly depending on the size of the family, the types of items they are requesting, and what you choose to purchase. We have a wide range of families seeking assistance and are often able to accommodate donor requests. If you want to talk about this, please give us a call at the number below.
How do I know what to buy?
Each family completes a wish list that includes an average of 10 items per family member, including parents. This is meant to be a guide and donors are by no means required to purchase all of the items on a wish list. We ask that all gifts are new.
Can I buy gift cards instead of gifts?
If you would like to adopt a specific family, we prefer that each family member receive a minimum of two gifts. These gifts may be supplemented with gift cards if you wish.
What do I do with the gifts after I buy them?
We ask that each gift be wrapped and labeled with the first name of the family member. When you have finished shopping, please contact us to set up a time to drop off the gifts at our office.
Most families pick up their gifts, and are assisted by a team of volunteers who wrap, carry and deliver – helping to bring a holiday of joy to a family in need.
Holiday assistance at the agency is provided by volunteers from the community, members of the Ross Valley Women’s League and National Charity League volunteer teams.
What if I don’t like shopping? Can I donate without adopting a family?
There are several options available to you if your preference is to avoid the holiday shopping season. It is incredibly helpful to receive donations of gift cards, food cards, and household items. These can be delivered to our office or ordered online and mailed to us. For more information about these options, please click here.
